The gathering didn't come as a surprise - Dodd heads the congressional committee considering new regulations for hedge funds - but the venue did. The fundraiser was initially to be held at New York City's Harmonie Club. After political news site Politico drew attention to the club's questionable membership practices - Harmonie has long been criticized for not having minority members - Dodd's staff moved the event to another location.
