Citadel taps power analysts

February 22, 2010

Ken Griffin’s firm has hired two energy specialists for its London outfit.

Citadel Investment Group has brought onboard two power analysts for its London office. Hallvard Kosberg and Amalaswintha Wolfsdorf both joined in late January.

Kosberg was previously a senior analyst and quant modeller at SKM Market Predictor, a Norwegian company focused on the energy markets. Before that, he was an analyst at Enron Nordic Energy. Wolfsdorf was a power analyst at energy-trading firm Hetco for about six months last year before joining Citadel. From June 2006 to May 2009, she was a commodities analyst at Merrill Lynch.

Kosberg confirmed his role but declined further comment. Wolfsdorf could not be reached but another Citadel employee confirmed her hire. Devon Spurgeon, a Citadel spokeswoman in Chicago, declined to comment.

The firm, which manages roughly $13 billion, has made several notable hires in recent months. Jake Walthour, formerly a partner and head of advisory services at New York hedge fund consultancy Aksia, has joined the firm to help raise institutional capital. Art de Pena, head of loan sales at Royal Bank of Scotland Group, joined Citadel as a managing director in its credit business. And the firm was among those to rehouse talent from the wreckage of Galleon Group, scooping up Galleon portfolio manager Charles Benziger to focus on consumer stocks.
